10 ball is a popular pool game that is played with 10 balls. The goal of the game is to pocket all 10 balls and then sink the black ball. In this blog post, we will discuss the major 10 ball rules and how to play the game.

Major 10 Ball Rules

Take a look at some of the major 10 ball rules to master the game.

1. Object of The Game

The object of the 10 balls is to pocket the 10 balls and then sink the black ball. This can be done in any order.

  • The game is usually played with nine balls plus the cue ball.
  • The player who pockets the most balls wins the game.
  • If two or more players are tied, then the player with the most points wins.
  • A player can also win by sinking the 10 balls in any order.
  • If a player sinks the 10 balls before all of the other balls are pocketed, then that player automatically wins the game.

2. Break Shot

The break shot is the most important shot in 10 balls. It is how you start the game and can set the tone for the rest of the game.

  • The player who breaks must hit the cue ball from behind the head string.
  • The player can choose to break from anywhere on the table but it is recommended that they break from the middle of the table.
  • Also, the player must hit the cue ball with enough force to make it bounce off of the headrail and then come back and hit the 10 balls.
  • If the player hits the 10 balls but does not pocket any, then it is foul, and their opponent can choose to either take the shot or have the player re-break.
  • Also, if the cue ball is pocketed on a break shot, then it is foul, and the opponent can either take the shot or have the player re-break.
  • If any balls are pocketed on a break shot, then they are not counted and are returned to the table.

3. Racking of The Ball

Racking the balls is an important part of 10 balls. It ensures that the game is fair and that all of the balls are in the correct order.

  • The 10 balls are racked in a triangle at the back of the table with the black ball in the middle.
  • The other balls are then placed around it in random order.
  • Also, the triangle is then placed so that the point of the triangle is at the center of the table.
  • The balls must then be pushed together so that they are touching.
  • Once the balls are racked, the player can then break.

4. Continuing Play

Once the break shot is taken, play continues with the player who pocketed the most balls on their turn.

  • If no balls were pocketed on the break shot, then play continues with the player who did not break.
  • The player must then hit the cue ball from behind the head string and try to pocket as many balls as possible.
  • If the player pockets the 10 balls, then they automatically win the game.
  • Play continues until one player has pocketed all of the balls or until one player has more points than the other players.

5. Scoring Criteria

Scoring in 10 balls is simple. Each ball that is pocketed is worth one point.

  • The black ball is worth 10 points.
  • If the 10 balls are pocketed in order, then the player gets an additional 100 points.
  • If the player sinks the black ball on their first shot, then they get an additional 50 points.
  • The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

6. Foul

There are a few different foul shots in 10 balls.

  • If the cue ball is pocketed, then it is a foul shot.
  • If the cue ball does not hit the 10 balls on a break shot, then it is a foul shot.
  • Also, if the 10 balls are not hit on a break shot, then it is a foul shot.
  • If the 10 balls are not pocketed on a break shot, then it is a foul shot.
  • If the player hits an opponent’s ball with the cue ball, then it is a foul shot.

7. Cue Balls In Hand

There are a few situations in which the cue ball is placed in hand.

  • If the player hits the cue ball off of the table, then it is placed back on the table in hand.
  • If the player fouls, then their opponent can place the cue ball anywhere on the table.
  • Also, if the player sinks the black ball on their first shot, then they can place the cue ball anywhere on the table.
  • If the player pockets the 10 balls in order, then they can place the cue ball anywhere on the table.
  • If the player hits an opponent’s ball with the cue ball, then it is placed back Con the table in hand.

8. No Rail

There are a few different shots in 10 balls that are not allowed.

  • If the player hits the cue ball off of the table, then it is a foul shot.
